The Back
The preparation of the back was quite a bit of work because I planed it completely by hand to the final thickness. Rosewood is not a soft wood...
I jig sawed both parts of the back and glued them togehter as I did it with the face. After that I began the planing to the desired thickness and noticed that rosewood is a really hard wood... |
At the beginning the thickness of both parts were rellay uneven. Here still remains a lot of work to do.
The back had a big crack but I got some good repair tips from the gearbuilder.de forum. I flooded the crack with cyano acrylat (superglue) and it seems to work. (see next picture) |
After some more planing and working with the scraper blade the back is now ready for glueing.
| I routed a channel 6mm width and 1,5mm deep in the back for the center strip. |
I used a lot of glue for the center strip... It was leveled with sand paper and a scraper blade. |
On the inner side I glued some reinforcements made of some scrap parts of the top. |
I had to work with "dirty tricks" glueing on the back bars because I didn't have the proper clamps at hand. |
The back with all bars glued on. On this picture it is quite obvious that the inner surface is as perfect as it should be. During the thicknessing process I should have switched from the plane to the scraper blade a bit earlier... |
