I reduced the thickness of the planks to one inch on my drill press.

Preparing the joint.

Gluing the planks together.

Along the contour lines I drilled a row of holes on the external side.

After carving the external side I drilled lots of holes with the drill press.
The depth stop was adjusted in a way to achieve a uniform thickness of 9mm.

The carving took me about 12 hours...

Because the depth stop failed, two holes remained on the external side.

I cut a little chip of wood from a piece of scrap wood,...

glued it over the hole,..

and sanded it flush.
